A luzzu is a traditional fishing boat from the Maltese islands. The eyes painted on the side of the luzzu are the symbols of good health and said to protect fishermen from any harm when they are out at sea. Like the hunter Narcissus who fell in love with his own reflection, the luzzu on Vania Goshe’s painting appears to like its own image in the water.
